Section 13: "Skully"
(Previous Caretakers: David & Divina Swan, Ancient) Code: SKUL

Can looking for a linen box bring your happiness or forever change your life? Well this was a key that helped for the crystal skull known as "Skully" to resurface. As with all our other crystal skulls, its history and story is no more strange or unusual then the rest.

Physical Description

"Skully " is a single piece of clear quartz. He appears to be carved to a fairly accurate interpretation of a life-sized human skull with the exception that the lower cranium curves down into the back of the jaw. The skull also has an overbite, similar to "ET". The quality of the quartz is almost optically clear except for a few veils inside of it. The entire surface of the skull is polished to an extremely high degree and due to this, there are some amazing reflections of light one can see. At the back of the left eye (where the crystal is very thin) is some slight damage (it is believed this occurred during the time of the carving).

History

First, we will look at how David Leslie came into possession of the skull and then we will follow this up with the history that he was told. As David wrote in an interview I did with him, "Up to a couple of years ago I was a normal guy from West Yorkshire, quite happy with my life." Prior to his contact with the skull, David knew about the crystal skulls through a book he read in 1981 by Arthur C. Clark, entitled "Mysterious world". He was intrigued by a picture of the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull inside of this book. Here he saw that this skull was so clear and beautifully formed. Over the years he had an opportunity to read other articles that discussed various theories about the origins of the skulls. The idea that there might be a link with aliens and that the crystal skull could be very old, further excited him. But he never thought in his wildest dreams what would happen to him next, that he would have one himself.

In May of 1997, he was moving from one address to another and wanted to buy a few items, including a linen box. He wanted this box to go at the base of his bed and have a domed lid. He was determined to find one that was exactly what he wanted. He tried all kind of places within a 20-mile radius of where he lived and was unsuccessful. Then one Sunday morning, he decided to go to the Doncaster Racecourse where they have a gigantic market with outdoor and indoor stalls. He figured he could find something here as well as a few old books which is one of his personal loves. So he arrived about 11:30 AM and after wandering outside for 40 minutes, he tried the indoor section.

He overheard at one stall that they were trying to dispose of some unwanted items that belong to a recently deceased gentleman named "Leonard" (David wasn't sure if this couple at the booth had a relationship to the deceased). The stall gave one an impression of selling relics from an upper-class Victorian person. David noticed some books and as he clumsily stumbled toward them, his toe struck something hard under the table. So he looked down to see what he had kicked and saw it was a metal trunk with a domed lid and panels that gave one the impression of binding straps. David guess it was 70 or so years old and in not so good condition.

So he dragged the trunk out to take a closer look at it and noticed it was quite heavy. The trunk was almost full with newspapers dating from the 1960's on top. The contents were quite confusing but David notice some books with various esoteric subjects and thought he had solved two birds with one stone. So he asked the price and eventually they agreed on £45 (a bit more then he hoped) but the trunk fit his requirements and was the only one he could find, so he purchased it and took it home.

It wasn't until several months later that David opened his new box. After he had removed most of the contents he came across a cloth pouch containing a somewhat spherical object that was quite heavy (he thought maybe a cannon-ball). The pouch was made from a faded looking linen, maybe from a table cloth and another piece of this hem tied it. So he carefully eased the object out and at first he saw the polished surface of the back of the skull and then was surprised to see that it was a skull and not a crystal ball. As he took a closer look at the skull, a beam of sunlight caught the brow of the left eye-socket and flashed back a burst of golden sparks. A much smaller pouch (of the same material was stuffed into the right eye socket. This contained a few slivers of wood plus some small fragments of material and other debris. For whatever reason, David placed the skull on his bedside table and had (some of the most powerful dreams he ever had?)

So he decided to keep the skull on his piano. When friends when come to visit they would all be curious about it and want to see and touch it. The name of the skull came when Divina Swan, a good friend of David (who would also become very involved in helping David with the skull to setup private session for the research they conducted later), asked one day "How's Skully" and this name stuck. In late August he met a medium and asked this woman what she felt about the skull. The medium said this was a special and unique item that had some powers. So David decided he better talk to his banker and see if what he needed to do to insure this item. Once he contacted the bank, a sequence of events began that forever changed David's life. First the bank sent him a letter to inquire how David had obtained this artifact. Then David was contacted by a gentlemen who worked at another branch of this bank who had learned about the skull and had been looking for this crystal skull. This man was part of a certain society of gentlemen and they were very interested to buy the crystal skull based on the condition they could conduct some tests upon it. This gentlemen showed David he really did know of the skull because he described its feature very accurately.

So David agreed to allow this group to commission their tests and David asked to receive the results. They also agreed that if David refused to sell them the skull that he would be willing to loan it to them on certain dates they would specify.

Here is a quick summary of the scientific analysis done on "Skully" that David received. The Carbon-14 dating was of course useless on the quartz that comprised the skull but they were able to date the wood that comprised the box as well as the pieces of wood found in the eye socket, this tree was cut down about 2000 years ago. The other debris found in the eye-socket was dated to about 400 AD. The tests also stated that this skull was carved against the natural grain of the quartz and that it came from a single block of crystal. Also it was stated that there was no evidence of modern (steel, diamond) tool or wheel marks were present on its surfaced and it was assumed to have been ground down by using progressively finer abrasive pastes(?). The society was happy with these results and officially offered to buy the skull, but David declined.

Then David didn't hearing anything for a time but again, in June of 1998, the group contacted him again and explained to David the importance of this crystal skull to their society. They then increased their offering price, which David still declined. During this time the society shared the history of the crystal skull, as they had in their records.

Louis Armstrong who lived most of his life in South Africa was a world explorer and big game hunter. In 1849 or 1850 while in the Yaxchilian area of Mexico, he heard a local legend that there was a tribe in the western mountains who venerated a magical skull that had great power. At one time, when the rains failed to come and their crops died, the skull was blamed. They thought its power had been turned against them so the Shaman or tribal elder cast it into a far-away lake. There was another legend that was quite similar which stated in in the town of San Juan De Dios (also in this part of Mexico) that a strange man appeared who could tell the future by working with an ancient head. However as soon as he arrived, the town started to have bad luck so they toss the man and his skull into a lake near the town.

Well, in any case, this legend made Louis very curious so he eventually found this lake. Against the better wishes of some of the local town people (due to the legend), Louis found a way to get the local people to help him (using whatever means he could) and they were able to shift the lake bottom till they found the skull. Louis could not pay the locals the money he promised, so he had to leave the country very quickly and returned to South Africa in 1851/52 where he got married. Through this marriage a son was born called Peter Armstrong. Peter did not follow in his father's footsteps and married in 1885. In 1899 his wife and two daughters were killed at the British's defeat at Stormberg (South Africa) of the Boer War. Therefore, he decided to join the British Army and remained for the duration of the war. In 1905, he moved to England (Bradford) and remarried and had a son Lawrence Earnshaw (Peter decided for some reason to take a new last name).

Lawrence was a popular man and later in life he joined the same society that had contacted David. Lawrence allowed the skull to be used for certain secret purposes by this society. When he died in 1965, it went to his eldest son Leonard. Leonard had no interest whatsoever to be associated with the society and it seems he withheld the skull from their use. When Leonard died in 1996, he had probably kept the skull in this metal box and this is how David found it.

David allowed this society to work with the skull in January of 1999 and February of 1999. Then on April 16th, 1999 the bank contacted him that the society had filed two claims for ownership of the skull. One claim was through a relative of Mr. Earnshaw and the other on behalf of the society. Through these claims, David was forbidden to mention who this society was. A second letter came from the society solicitor stating that the Skull must remain in a security box in the bank until the ownership was decided.

In the late summer of 1998, David decided to put out a news release via several spiritual magaines in England asking for psychics or channelers who might like to work with the skull (or a photo) and share their experiences or insights. David thought he would only get a few responses but he had many. And some of the people he heard from felt very strange to him. Divina told me that even Uri Geller had contacted them about the skull. In any case during the following year (1999) they had over 400 reports (from January to August) and Divina helped David to setup a number of sessions. In Chapter 10, we will share a few of the impressions picked up the participants.

If has been discovered that if a beam of light is shone from underneath "Skully", at a specific angle, then a thin, wide and very intense strip of light beams out from the gap between his upper and lower teeth. This effect is stunning and absolutely magical. Seeing it sends a shiver down one's spine. At the time the sessions were being undertaken this effect was not known about and occasionally happened by accident.

David was contacted by a Dr. Asman who used to work for Marconi Radar in Chelmsford in England. Dr. Asman is involved in some private research with kirlian (cameras that take pictures of the aura) photography. He is a specialist related to the piezo-electric resonation properties of quartz crystals. So when he saw the article about "Skully" he invited David and Divina to visit him in his home during the summer of 1999. So David allowed Dr. Asman in effect to take a 3-D image of the skull using some special equipment. In any case, Dr. Asman is experimenting with some very advance technologies. The key from this test was an analysis done on the 3-D image by a gemologist named Tim Robbins. He found that within "Skully" encoded within the dimensions and angels of the skulls are numerical rations that match exactly the values of various dimensions of the planet earth (such as the number of days in a year and the circumstance of our planet). In Chapter 12, we will revisit this analysis in greater detail.

Lastly, you might ask, how did "Skully" affect David in his life, as he was around the skull. Well, David has a musical background, playing the piano and guitar. His musical aspirations being limited to "knocking out a couple of tunes at the local pub in return for a few drinks." However, during 1999, David started to be seized by an almost overwhelming compulson to compose his own music. According to David, "I don't know where all this stuff is coming from (or maybe I do), I find myself sitting at my piano with absolutely no idea how I came to be there or indeed how long I have been playing. There is no working-out of chord structures as such, the tunes simply pop into my head fully formed. I see them as a sort of a cartoon symphony, each note has its own character and color. These spiral round in a kind of pantomime. When I listen back to the tapes I can't believe that I've created these tunes. I'm not good enough, but there they are, fully formed. The biggest problem I have is translating these incredible vsions onto audio-tape using very limited technology and only basic playing skill."

We will mention one other thing here, is that it seems from the suggestions of the sensitives who worked with "Skully" that three different time periods seem to come up. If you plotted on a chronological graph these three noticeable timeframes, they would appear in the straight line. Also these periods seemed to correspond very well to the C14 analysis (Carbon-14 testing done on the debris found on Skully) that identified dates of 375BC, 400AD and 800AD. These are dates for debris that were discovered in the small pouch stuffed into his left eye-socket.

David's Thoughts

At the present time the skull still belongs to David but it seems inevitable that the society will eventually get the skull back. If they do, David is quite sure no one will see it again. The skull currently resides in a security box in the bank and will stay there till this case of ownership is decided. So after spending time with "Skully", we will finish this section with a few thoughts from the current caretaker: "

I will add that the skulls were originally constructed to house a particular form of energy. The human species had no connection whatsoever with the original function of the skulls, other than any accidental role it may play in their destruction. In connection with myths regarding the number of (very old) skulls I would agree that a potential total of 13 skulls, although it is extremely likely that this number was never realized (due to various unpredictable factors) I believe the actual number created to be 7. Of these (possible) 13, I am confident that only three have survived till now. Really old implies pre-10,500 B.C. I do not consider "Skully" to be one of these three although he is certainly older than most of the extant skulls. All others are copies, crude attempts to recreate something that was not quite understood anymore. Rather like savages trying to recapture the power of a spent battery by making something that looked like it. I am certain that although not original, many of the extant skulls are relatively old. 'How old' is currently a big and controversial issue. "

I believe the terms 'People activate skulls' and 'skulls activate people' are incorrect. I feel that the term 'people activate people via skulls' is more accurate with respect to certain technical aspects of the scientific process usually referred to a 'Enlightenment'. That our own experience with the skulls is only an unplanned, or even considered side-effect of their true function in no way invalidates either the process or result. The crystal skulls were a part of this trail, another clue (left by an advance race or visitors to our world). A clue specific that is a living part of the legacy which was left by previous 'visitors'. "

If I were to condense everything I have tried to say (in relationship to "Skully") into a single paragraph, its essence would be that: "The true essence and core of enlightenment, or...inspiration (is a better word) comes from the inside and radiates out. Not vice versa, as has been the prevailing trend. The 'realization' or vision is not one of communication (in whatever form) with external intelligences. But rather that of the individual cell becoming aware of its relations with the body it forms an integral part of: And of its own true potential within this whole." Final Comments and Conclusions David is an example of a person who became a crystal skull caretaker without knowing that he would become one. I think is a gallant young man for hanging on to "Skully" so that it had the chance to be shared with other people and hopefully continues to be shared in the future. I believe the work down by Dr. Ashman is very significant and I thank "Skully" for revealing to us another part of the puzzle. And it is amazing how many skulls came out in the 19th century but remain hidden until most recently. This story will continue ….
